"Tear Drop"

Has anyone heard about this? It's a beautiful monument made and installed by the Russians to honor victims of 9-11. The names of all those killed in 9-11 are inscribed on the base.

The artist is Zurab Tesereteii. A beautiful monument to the struggle of world terrorism.

And the Winner is...........

First of all I want to thank all you special ladies who entered my give-away. I feel like I'm the winner here, because now I have some more great blogs to visit and I feel like I've made some great new friends. You are all very talented ladies and I'm glad you came to visit me here.

Creature of the Night

Hi Everyone,
Today is the last day of my blog give-away. I'll be pulling a name tonight, at midnight. Good luck to all.

I don't think I mentioned this before, but I collect fairies. Fairy dolls, fairy figurines, fairy books. So i did a collage that was inspired by a figurine Don bought me in Montreal last year. I used a Jessica Galbreth print as the main focus. She is such a talented artist. If you don't know her work, you should defineatly check her out.

Blog Give-away

Hi Everyone,
It's Monday and that means tomorrow at midnight, I'll be picking the name of the winner for my blog give-away. Please remember to send me your e-mail address so I can contact you.

Didn't do much painting or journaling this week-end, but I did work in my sketch book a lot. I drew a lot of pictures awhile ago and I spent this week-end coloring them in. I'll use most of them in my art journal at some point.

I LOVE to color. Brings me back to my child-hood....I would get so excited over a new coloring book and a box of new crayons. I still love the smell of a box of crayons.

Don and I watched a really good movie this week-end called "Inkheart", it's taken from a book written for young adults, but we really enjoyed it. There are three books in the series, so I think I'm going to get them and read them.

Well....I need more coffee, so you all have a good day!

"Draw a crazy picture, Write a nutty poem, Sing a mumble-gumble song, Whistle through your comb. Do a loony-goony dance 'Cross the kitchen floor, Put something silly in the world That ain't been there before." -Shel Silverstein

I love this poem......Happy Spring to All

Blog Give-away

I just read somewhere that this is Anonymous Giving Week, a time to celebrate the true spirit of giving. Well this won't be anonymous, but it will definitely be in the true spirit of giving.

I'll be giving away a copy of "Visual Chronicles" by Linda Woods and Karen Dinino. This is a great book with lots of cute ideas on journaling.

So...if you would like to win a copy of this book, please leave a comment at the end of this entry between today and next Tuesday, March 24th and I will announce the winner on Wednesday, March 25th. Please don't forget to email your email address to me at.... joycefierro@mindspring.com. I'm new at this, so please bear with me and if any of you have words of advice, please feel free to express them.

Today's the Day

I lost my job about two months ago. This is the first time in twenty-five years that I've been without a job. At first it was great, I had all this time now to create and read and crochet and cross-stitch....I'm not much of a TV watcher. I was always amazed at people that said they were bored. To me, there were never enough hours in a day to do all the things I wanted to do.

I at least got a chance to start this blog and join some artist networks and learn some new techniques.

But guess what....I'M BORED. So today I decided to get back into an exercise routine. I love doing yoga and dancing, and now that the weather is getting nicer I'll even start walking. I just need to tone up a little. So since the temperature is going to hit 60 today, I guess this is the day to start. Starting is not the hard part....the hard part is keeping it up. Wish me luck.

Tree sprite and Wood sprite

Hi Everyone,
Our gorgeous week-end is still going strong. I can't wait to go out and start taking some photos. There is still a lot of snow around so I'll have to wait a little longer I guess.

I've posted a picture of a couple of Sprite dolls that I crocheted. The little green one looks like it's dirty, but it's just some glitter.

Enjoy the rest of your week-end

Muses

Hi everyone....well we are finally enjoying a nice week-end here in New England. Sunny and in the 50's. I'm loving it.
Well, I thought my muses had went on a road trip this week-end because I went into my studio this morning to create and it just wasn't happening. So I tried again this afternoon and came up with this collage. It just popped into my head, so I guess my muses decided to stick around today.

Hope you are all enjoying a creative week-end.

Personal Moon

Wouldn't it be nice to have your own personal moon?

Full Moon

Now that daylight savings time has arrived, we will definately be enjoying more sunlight, but don't forget about our other heavenly body, the moon.

The full moon that starts tonight is called the Full Worm Moon this year.. Because this is the time the earth starts to soften and the earthworms come out, inviting back the robins. It also has other names like: the Full Crow Moon and the Full Crust Moon. But my favorite is the Full Sap Moon, because this is the time of the year they start tapping maple trees for that delicious mape syrup.

Fairy pages

I've been wanting to start a Fairy journal. I've been inspired by the book "Fairyopolis" by Cicely Mary Barker. She has several books out and they are all fascinating, but Fairyopolis is done in journal form and is beautifully done.

So I decided to try a couple of Fairy pages in my art journal to see how they would turn out. It's hard to see, but in the last photo the moon is in a little net bag in the lower corner. The envelope on the other page opens up to reveal a secret message.
Now I think I'm going to do an altered book and turn it into a fairy journal.... Wish me luck!

Cardboard Cutie

This is Belinda, my second Cardboard Cutie. I'm really into this painting on cardboard and it helps with recycling. I've been searching the house all morning for boxes to cut up for my paintings. It's a good thing I'm a shoe fanatic...I opened my closet and there stood a pile of shoe boxes....mmmm.
Now all my shoes are in a big plastic bin. Oh well....the sacrifices we make for art!

Happy Birthday Dr Seuss

Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904. After attending Dartmouth College and Oxford University, he began a career in advertising. Dr. Seuss’s first children’s book, and to Think that I Saw It on Mulberry Street, hit the market in 1937, changing the world of children’s literature forever.

I just love childrens art work

These are two pictures that my grand-daughters drew for me. I think children's artwork is so pure and innocent. They show you their pictures and they are so proud...as well they should be. They are the true artists.

One of my favorite ornaments was a wooden Santa Claus that one of my sons painted when he was about three years old. Santa's face was blue and his suit was green, but I thoght it was so beautiful and it always hung prodly on the front of our tree.

In like a Lion

Yup...here in New England, March came in like a lion. Another 12 to 15 inches of snow here today. Oh well, at least we still have power so I'm thankful for that. I have warmth, water and plenty of coffee. I LOVE MY COFFEE. I think my blood type is Folgers.

I was watching a YouTube video by Mystele about how she paints on cardboard so I tried it out. Ava is my first cardboard painting, but she won't be my last. I plan on doing a series called "Cardboard Cuties". Thanks for the great idea Mystele. Another great way to recycle.
